Most people who ask "am I ugly" measure in the normal range. This test measures your face geometry from 478 landmarks, shows where each feature sits against reference ranges and leads with your strongest feature. Lighting, angle and expression change looks a lot, and the photo check shows how.
Am I ugly, or is it the photo?
Very often it is the photo. Front cameras held close make the nose and centre of the face look wider. Photos show your face un-mirrored, which looks wrong to you because you are used to the mirror version. Overhead light deepens shadows under the eyes, and a camera held below the face widens the jaw and neck. A face that looks fine in person can look noticeably worse in a quick selfie.
This test checks the photo before it scores it: it flags tilted heads, smiles and small faces, corrects small head turns, and shows you the lines it measured.
What the "am I ugly" test shows
Instead of a stranger's verdict, you get measurements. The test scores eight areas of your face — symmetry, eyes, jawline, proportions, thirds, golden ratio, dimorphism and harmony — and leads with your strongest one. Each measurement is shown against a reference range, so "outside the range" is a description you can understand, not a judgement. The scale is calibrated so a typical, well-taken photo lands around 6 — not the 2 or 3 people often fear.
Why do I feel ugly?
Feeling unattractive usually has less to do with your face than with comparison. Social media shows filtered, posed, best-of-hundreds photos; it is a poor reference for how faces look. Bad sleep, stress and low mood also change how people see themselves in the mirror.
If you spend hours a day checking or hiding a feature, avoid going out because of how you look, or cannot stop thinking about a flaw others do not notice, those can be signs of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), which is common and treatable. A doctor or mental health professional can help, and in the US the NAMI HelpLine and in the UK Mind offer support. A face rating will not answer that feeling — but talking to someone can.
Small changes that make the biggest difference
- Take photos at eye level from arm's length in daylight — this alone changes how most people look on camera.
- Get a haircut that suits your face shape; check it with the face shape detector.
- Groom your brows evenly — it improves perceived symmetry more than almost anything else.
- Look after skin and sleep; they shape how others see your face more than bone structure does.
Frequently asked questions
Am I ugly?
A photo test cannot answer that, and most people who ask score in the normal range. This test measures facial geometry in one photo and shows your strongest features first. Lighting, angle and expression change how a face looks in photos far more than people expect.
Why do I look worse in photos than in the mirror?
Front cameras held close widen the nose and centre of the face, wide-angle lenses distort the edges, and photos show you un-mirrored, which looks unfamiliar. Taking the photo from arm's length at eye level in soft light usually helps a lot.
Will the same photo always get the same score?
Yes. Your score is calculated from fixed measurements with a fixed formula, not guessed by a chatbot, so the same photo always returns the same result. Different photos can differ because angle, distance, expression and lens change where your features appear.
Do you upload or store my photo?
No. Scoring and measurement run entirely in your browser: the face model downloads to your device and your photo never leaves it. Only the AI Analysis tools (such as age or color analysis) send a photo to our server, and they say so before you upload.
